Microsoft Set to Purchase World’s Largest Source Code Platform — GitHub!
Deal
could be announced on Monday!
Recent report from
Bloomberg is claiming that the software giant ‘Microsoft’ has agreed to
purchase GitHub, and the deal could be announced on Monday.
GitHub, last
valued at $2 Billion in 2015, is a vast code repository that became popular
with companies and individual developers hosting their documentation, code, and
projects.
After GitHub
founder Chris Wanstrath announced his intentions to step down, GitHub had been
looking for new CEO since last 9 months. Later, the coding startup was
impressed by the active approach from Satya Nadella, Microsoft’s current CEO,
since he took role in 2014.
Microsoft
Loves Open-Source Now…
Microsoft
has been investing rapidly in Open-Source Technologies ever since Satya Nadella
became CEO. In fact, Microsoft has already open-sourced Visual Studio Code, Microsoft Edge JavaScript Engine,
and PowerShell.
Furthermore, Microsoft has also acquired Xamarin to assist
cross-platform mobile app development.
Microsoft’s
deal with GitHub will likely mean we will soon start to see even closer
integration between Microsoft’s developer tools and GitHub. Although, a Twitter
Poll from Bryan Lunduke showed
that 68% of existing GitHub users would move to another service if the
acquisition is confirmed.
How this news will pan out is yet to
be known, but if Microsoft does indeed acquires GitHub, then developers won’t
have to wait too long to know exact plans of Microsoft with GitHub.
